Les Cahiers de médiologie
Les Cahiers de médiologie is an illustrated biannual journal published from 1996 to 2004. It was edited by Régis Debray, a French philosopher known for his work in médiologie, a discipline he helped to develop.
Mediology studies how ideas become material forces through various mediations, such as the media, education and culture.
History and Themes
The first issue, entitled “La querelle du spectacle”, was coordinated by Daniel Bougnoux. It tackles the theme of spectacle from a variety of angles, including theater, cinema and television.
Subsequent issues dealt with topics as varied as roads, nations and networks, paper and music.
Contribution to Mediology: Les Cahiers has gathered contributions from many influential thinkers, such as Jean Baudrillard, Jacques Derrida, and Michel Serres.
Evolution
After ceasing publication in 2004, the journal was replaced by Médium , also edited by Régis Debray, which continues to explore themes related to mediology. An anthology of Cahiers de médiologie is available, offering an overview of the discussions and reflections conducted in this journal.
